Anna C. Cairney
B.A., Communication Arts, George Fox University
M.A.T., Secondary Education, George Fox University
Certification in Public Speaking and English
Anna is a Doctoral Fellow for the Institute for Writing Studies. Her academic focus is in Composition and Rhetoric.
Before returning to graduate study, Anna worked at Writers House, a literary agency in Manhattan. There she was trained in examining the structure of successful narrative. Her reading focused mostly on fiction: including literary fiction, historical fiction, mass-market fiction and YA. Additionally, she worked with non-fiction, middle grade and children’s manuscripts. She continues to evaluate manuscripts.
Other scholarly interests include examining how universities are meeting the needs of advanced writers. She is also interested in the intersection of written and oral storytelling and exploring digital frontiers of publishing narrative forms.
Currently, Anna is immersed in the operations of the SJU Writing Center. Prior to working with the Writing Center, Anna taught First Year Writing.
She began her academic career as a High School English and Public Speaking teacher. She worked closely with her district to develop a Communication Across the Curriculum program designed to increase writing and speaking instruction in the core disciplines.
