PhD Candidate

Faten Hafez is an adjunct professor at Kean University. She teaches world literature and college
composition. She received her Masters of Arts in literature, from Monmouth University in 2016.
Her Master thesis is titled, “Jane Austin: The Acts of Implication in Two Centuries of Criticism”.
It examines the critical premise from which scholars have approached Pride and Prejudice and
Persuasion in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries and how they respond to her
subtle references of war and politics. Ms. Hafez’s academic research focuses on the 18 th and 19 th
century British literature and medieval literature. She is a Ph. D. candidate at St. John’s
University, English Department. Her dissertation will foreground the ecofeminist post-colonial
perspective in Austen’s Persuasion and Mansfield Park and recognizes Austen’s feminist
concerns as deeply interwoven with the imperial and political ideologies of the early nineteenth
century England.
