Internship Opportunity at Okayplayer

Labor Day, the official end of summer is approaching. That means it’s back to school time.

It also means it’s opportunity time.

Okayplayer is currently in the search for two editorial interns for the fall 2018 semester. One slot is an editorial internship position for Okayplayer; while the other is an editorial assistant internship position working with Okayplayer and OkayAfrica.

The internships are based out of our Brooklyn offices. All interns will be paid. Interns must be eligible to receive college credit. If this sounds interesting to you, and you know you can body this role, check out the two job descriptions below.

Editorial Internship

About Okayplayer

About the Position

We’re looking for aspiring journalists in the NYC area to join our editorial team. Okayplayer interns receive college credit and a monthly stipend as well as free lunch during their internship.

Responsibilities:

Our intern program is an intensive immersion into the world of online publishing and cultural journalism and will benefit applicants planning a career in media. You will participate in everything from editorial planning and reporting to image research and assisting on photoshoots.

Requirements:

•This position is specifically aimed at people with an interest in new music, art, politics and culture from around Africa and the diaspora.
•While we can accommodate your schedule, you must be NYC-based and able to commute to our Brooklyn office.
•You must have a strong writing background with some exciting clips.
•Blogging and social media experience is a plus.
•Ability to work in fast-paced environment

Editorial Assistant Internship

About the Position

Those who aspire to do editorial work usually start as editorial assistants. The position of editorial assistant is both an editorial and an administrative position.

Responsibilities include:

•Edits and/or proofreads manuscripts and other forms of copy for general grammatical correctness.
•May keyboard and proofread materials prior to publication using a variety of computer software.
•May revise and check reproduction proofs prior to publication.
•Serves as a liaison with author, printer, faculty, staff and others directly concerned with published work.
•May assist in performing layout work, coordinating production schedules and maintaining printing deadlines.
•May do some reporting and writing for department, school and University publications.
•May assist in obtaining illustrations and perform tasks related to same.
•Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required.

Requirements:

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
•Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
•Excellent interpersonal, organizational and research skills
•Detail-oriented and team player
