An academic unit of the College of Arts and Humanities, the Department of Women’s Studies is recognized as one of the leading programs in its field within the United States and beyond and will celebrate its fortieth-year anniversary as a department in 2017. The department includes a thriving and diverse program of LGBT studies, and so we seek a scholar who will be able to contribute significantly to curricular and programmatic development at both the undergraduate and graduate level. With eleven core faculty and more than eighty affiliate faculty, the department offers B.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Women’s Studies, undergraduate certificates in LGBT Studies and Women’s Studies, a minor in LGBT Studies, a joint minor in Black Women’s Studies (with African American Studies), and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies. Feminist Studies, a flagship journal of interdisciplinary scholarship in our field, is housed on our campus. In addition to Feminist Studies, the department hosts the annual D.C. Position Summary/Purpose of Position: The Department of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland announces a full-time tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor specializing in LGBTQ studies. We invite applications from persons whose scholarly production falls within the more traditional meaning of monographs and refereed journal articles and those whose scholarship is evidenced in performative and other creative venues or in policy work. The successful candidate will be able to work across multiple disciplines and have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
• Critical Race, Queer, or Transgender Theory/Studies/Policy
• Disability Studies/Crip Theory
• Transnational Genders and Sexualities, esp. Masculinities Across Racial Lines
• Gender and Sexuality in Performance Studies and Visual Culture
