Dearest English Department (Students and Faculty):
Recently, a group of dedicated PhD students have gathered to formalize programming and graduate student led group that will continue to implement this programming in the future.Previously there were groups that organized various events, such as the “Third Tuesdays” and “The Speakers Series”. Due to the change of courses in the department and in an effort to better plan all speakers and programs being sponsored by the English department, we’ve coalesced all of the varying efforts into one entity, calling it the PhD Palladium.
Attached to this message you will find two advertisements about our events for the semester: the first a rundown of all of our offerings during the semester, the second a flyer for the orientation on September 1st during common hour. We have tried to balance programming so we meet the social and professionalization needs for students. We hope we will see you at many of our events this semester!
Lastly, as one of the founders of this effort, I am also leading the initiative to formalize a graduate student group that will continue planning these events. The name of this group is The Graduate Organization Committee, also known as The GOC. There are currently two other individuals assisting with this student group, Raquel Corona and Tejan Waszak, and we are looking for prospective graduate students to join us. Below you’ll find a listing of positions we have opened and filled. If you are interested in any of the open positions please email SJUGradActivities@gmail.com with a resume / C.V. and a brief letter of intent expressing which position you would like to be considered for and why you believe you would be best suited for that role.

M.A. Student Representative – OPEN; Represents the interests of M.A. students in the English department and assists with planning as well as the execution of programs.
