
SUNYCouncil on Writing Conference 2017
Theme: “Defining Success in College Composition: Rethinking Writers, Writing, and Pedagogy”
Dates: Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017
Venue: Onondaga Community College, Syracuse, NY
Proposal Deadline: May 20, 2017
We invite writing researchers, instructors, and tutors to submit proposals for the 2017 SUNY COW conference, which will focus on success in college composition. Presentations that share theoretical and practical ideas about college writers, writing, and pedagogy are welcome within undergraduate education, the workplace, and globalized society.
Proposals may address issues such as, but not limited to, the following:
· the diversity of contemporary college writers
· integrating versus specializing on ESL/NNES students writing
· modern psychology and writing
· college composition as a human or social sciences
· writing as sociocultural dialogue
· writing in relation to reading
· writing in response to service learning
· genre studies and college writing
· creative writing as composition
· ethics in pedagogy
· role of technology in pedagogy
· blended classroom
· flipped classroom
· collaboration between secondary and postsecondary faculty
· collaboration between full-time and contingent faculty
· establishing or sustaining writing programs
· the idea of a writing center today
Presenters may propose individual sessions of 20 minutes. In addition to traditional panel presentations, we encourage presentations to consider alternative formats, including roundtables, workshops, discussions, and other formats that increase audience participation. We also encourage undergraduate participation and will provide break-out room for undergraduate research.
