Volunteer Work: World Association for Community Empowerment (WACE)

WACE is in request partnership in helping to meet the holistic needs of disadvantage families living on the North Shore of Staten Island.

World Association for Community Empowerment (WACE) is a volunteer driven – nonprofit tax-exempt organization founded in 2000 to help empower low-income and immigrant communities and families to become self-sufficient through the provision of comprehensive array of services.  Since Incorporated, WACE has emerged as one of the most significant non-profit organization on Staten Island, focusing on the economic development and social needs of Staten Island’s diverse and growing disadvantage communities. Our efforts are the product of broad public, private, and non-profit partnership funded through volunteerism, individual donations, community collaborations, as well as private corporations and the foundation community.

Currently, we provide the following services: Case Management and Referral, Afterschool and Out of School Program, Adult and Computer Literacy, Job Readiness and Placement, Pre-GED and Weekly Food Distribution to the elderly (55 and up).We also partner with Yogi Bear and the Fresh Air Funds to provide free afterschool recreational programs and Summer Camp. Our programs are provided through our North Shore Learning Centers which are located at 35 Holland Avenue – 10303 (Arlington Terrace Projects) and 320 Vanderbilt Ave – 10304 (Fox Hills Project).

We are seeking interns/student volunteers to work as Program Coordinators performing the following duties:  applicants intake, needs assessments, referrals, after school tutorial and homework help, Job readiness and computer literacy training, Pre-GED, etc.
