NEH SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOL AND COLLEGE EDUCATORs

Participate in an NEH Summer Program in 2013: Each summer, the National Endowment for the Humanities supports residential seminars and institutes for faculty who teach American undergraduates.

These study opportunities allow faculty and a select number of graduate students to increase their knowledge of current scholarship and advance their own teaching and research. Participants in these two- to five-week projects receive stipends to help cover travel and living expenses.

The 20 seminars and institutes for summer 2013 will address the following topics:

·        Brazilian literature
·        Italian unification
·        Metaphysics and mind
·        Early modern responses to religious pluralism
·        Reassessing British Romanticism
·        Early modern manuscripts and printed books
·        Classic Buddhist texts
·        African-American struggles for freedom and civil rights
·        American material culture in nineteenth-century New York
·        America’s Russian-speaking immigrants and refugees
·        Translation studies
·        Development ethics
·        African-American poetry
·        Early modern empires and interactions
·        History of political economy
·        History of India
·        Modernism in Chicago
·        African-Americans in the Georgia Lowcountry
·        Music and travel, 1500-1800
·        Transcendentalism and social action

Many seminars and institutes take place on American campuses; others are held at sites in Brazil, India, and Italy.

Direct an NEH Summer Program in 2014

The National Endowment for the Humanities is accepting applications for grants to direct a summer program for college faculty or schoolteachers on a humanities topic of your expertise.

Why direct an NEH summer program?

·        Directors strengthen teaching and research at the undergraduate or K-12 levels.
·        Directors influence their fields of expertise through intense collegial study, often resulting in participants’ publications.
·        Directors join a distinguished roster of NEH summer program leaders.
·        Directors engage with motivated participants from across the country.

The deadline to propose a summer program for Summer 2014 is March 5, 2013.
