Baruch College Seeking Consultants for Fall 2016

The Baruch College Writing Center anticipates openings for professional writing consultants to join our vibrant and engaged staff of writers and teachers for the Fall 2016 semester.  The priority deadline for applications is May 16th, with interviews scheduled throughout June.

Consultants provide support for linguistically diverse undergraduate and graduate students at Baruch to improve their writing and English language skills and to become more independent, confident, and versatile writers. Consultants work one-to-one and online with student writers, co-author session records with students, conduct small-group and in-class workshops, lead peer review groups, engage actively in professional development, and participate in pilot programs in collaboration with faculty and other support units of the college.

Our Center continues to grow and develop; in the past year, we’ve launched in-class workshops, peer review groups, and have re-launched our online journal of student writing. We will also continue to engage in staff development programs launched in prior years, including consultant writing groups, practitioner inquiry groups—where consultants collaborate to identify and investigate questions about their students’ learning—and other opportunities for growth. Consultants have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in developing new programs and exploring projects of interest to them.

  • experience supporting writers from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds;
  • an active writing life;
  • embodiment of and ability to foster the habits of mind that support students’ success, including curiosity, openness, engagement, creativity, persistence, responsibility, flexibility, and metacognition.

  • classroom teaching experience;
  • experience and training in formal first-year composition or other curriculum-based writing programs;
