Soannie is a Ph.D. student in English at St. John’s University as well as a Graduate Assistant in the University Writing Center. Her research interests are Literacy in Foodways, the power dynamics of Literacy, Composition and Rhetoric, Film Theory, and Young Adult Literature.
Soannie was born and raised in Miami, FL. She received a B.A. in English with minors in Photography and Global Studies from St. John’s University in 2019. Followed up with an M.A. in English from St. John’s University in 2021. Despite being a writer, she is also an artist who has had her creative work has appeared in The St. John’s University Humanities Review of 2020. Soannie’s goal is to become a Young Adult book editor or an educator, who could create an environment where her interests in Young Adult Literature/Media and other art forms could be combined in a creative space. When she isn’t reading or studying, she loves to travel around the world, go wakeboarding, paint, bake, and look for the next best coffee spot in the city.
