Bookmarks Th 3/27: The Age of Nashe with Steve Mentz and John Nance

Age of Nashe CoverThis coming Thursday during Common Hour we’ll have another Bookmarks event, celebrating the publication of The Age of Thomas Nashe, a collection of essays about the celebrated Elizabethan writer.

We’re especially excited about this book because it features two St John’s figures in its making: Professor Steve Mentz is one of the co-editors and also wrote the introduction and one chapter. His former student, John Nance, who received his BA and MA from St John’s in English, and who is now a PhD candidate in early modern literature and Florida State University, contributed a chapter on Nashe and the anatomy tradition. A much earlier version of that chapter comprised part of his MA thesis.

Please join us for conversation about this fascination and notorious Elizabethan writer, poet, and sometimes pornographer, and also for discussion of the social and professional worlds of literary study and book-creating.

The event will be in the back lobby of the Institute for Writing Studies during Common Hour, 1:50 – 3:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome!
