Marisa Berman Hollywood started the PhD at St John’s University ten years ago— two full-time higher-education jobs, three children, and one ambitious dissertation later, she successfully defended this past Tuesday December 10th.“From Hestors to Handmaids: Pregnancy, Reproduction, and the Novel 1789-1963” traces representations of the pregnant and conceiving body from Mary Wollstonecraft to Betty Friedan.
The dissertation was mentored by Dr Amy King and Dr Kathleen Lubey and Dr Jennifer Travis provided key readership on the committee.
