Congrats to Sonia Adams on her MLA fellowship!

Congratulations to our PhD candidate Sonia Adams for being a recipient of the Edward Guiliano Global Fellowship from the MLA! (The MLA, or Modern Language Association, is the largest association of academics in English and other languages.)

She is being honored for a project that will become part of her dissertation in progress. The title of the material for which she was awarded the fellowship is, “Cultivating Literary Excellence: The Phillis Wheatley Poetry Festival as a Learner-Centered Education Model for Orienting Black Diasporic Feminist Literature.”

Her dissertation is being mentored by Dr. Dohra Ahmad, with Dr. Raj Chetty and Dr. Bob Fanuzzi comprising the rest of her committee.

She – and we! – hope that the example of her success inspires other graduate students to join MLA and apply for professional development and research opportunities!
