We would like to congratulate Joe Schneider, a BA and MA alum of the SJU English department, on his future as a funded MA student at the University of Chicago’s joint-degree program in Public Policy and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago.
As he heads toward a career in policy analysis, Joe notes that his time in the English department at St. John’s has prepared him well to move into this new field:
English developed for me the theoretical and critical sensitivities that I can now take and apply to literature in comparative sociocultural, politico-economic, historical, philosophical, and linguistic contexts. The Middle Eastern studies program at the University of Chicago is supported by both the Divisions of Humanities and Social Sciences, making it the ideal space for the kind of multi- and interdisciplinary work I’d like to do. In addition to that, Chicago is one of the few schools in the country that offers a dual degree program in public policy and Middle Eastern studies. Since a career in policy research and development is my goal, this was hugely significant.
Congrats Joe!
