Stephanie Montalti is a first year PhD student and doctoral fellow. She is interested in nineteenth-century British literature, Victorian and Romantic, as well as children’s literature. She received her Master’s from The Graduate Center, CUNY in 2020 with a concentration in childhood and youth studies. Her Master’s thesis, “Returning to Childhood: Memoirs of Childhood Reading,” analyzes autobiographical accounts of childhood reading. Her work examines the spaces where childhood and adulthood connect, especially through reading. Some topics she explores include definitions of innocence, memory, literacy, illustration, museums, and cross-writing or cross-over works.

She is currently working as Editor of St. John’s Humanities Review for the Spring 2021 issue and is Secretary of the English Graduate Organization. She looks forward to teaching as an adjunct. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family, playing board games, and writing poetry.
