Study Abroad: Baseball, Black Culture, and Literature with Dr. Raj Chetty (Eng 3690)

St. John’s students have the exciting opportunity this coming spring semester to study “Baseball, Black Culture, and Literature” with Dr. Raj Chetty, including a spring break trip to the DR!

This innovative course explores creative and critical writing about the cultures of race, sport, and baseball in the USA, the Dominican Republic, and the broader Caribbean.

Organized in partnership with the non-profit Yspaniola, the course includes a week-long trip to the DR over spring break (Feb 24 – March 1). Students will engage with Dominicans of Haitian descent, Black Dominicans, and Haitians living in the DR who struggle against racism and class oppression.

Note that for this special class, applications are due Oct 15, before regular advising season. If you have questions, please reach out to Dr. Chetty at chettyr@stjohns.edu.
