Kristen is a Doctoral Fellow in the Institute for Writing Studies at St. John’s University. Before coming to St. John’s, Kristen spent a year at a very small, local, private, performing arts school, where she was charged with creating a writing program consisting of three components: first-year writing, a writing center, and writing across the curriculum. She has also been working as an adjunct instructor and as a faculty tutor in the Writing Center at SUNY Suffolk since 2013.

Her research interests include examining the ways in which classic rhetoric shapes the modern composition classroom; exploring multimodality, multimedia, and multigenre in the first-year writing class in an effort to, not only become a more inclusive environment for students with varied interests, but to meet the ever-changing publication realities that students who seek to publish will face; and exploring the challenges that military veterans in the composition classroom meet upon returning to school.
